A Brief History of the Holy Rosary Church

     

     The Holy Rosary Church is honored to commemorate its rich history and significant milestones, which have shaped its legacy as a spiritual haven for the community. The journey of the present location of Holy Rosary Church began on January 24, 1926, with the placement of the cornerstone for the new church. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of a dedicated effort to establish a larger place of worship that would serve the faithful for generations to come.

     On February 14, 1926, a groundbreaking ceremony was held, led by the esteemed Bishop Stephen. This ceremony symbolized the commitment and dedication of the church's leaders and congregation to create a sacred space for worship and community gatherings. The construction of the church was overseen by the missionary Rev. Fr. James Bissel, who was assisted by two Hawaiian boys not trained in construction. Despite the challenges, their collective efforts and unwavering determination resulted in the successful completion of the church at a cost of $35,000.

     The dedication of the Holy Rosary Church took place on February 20, 1927, officiated by Bishop Stephen. This solemn event marked the official opening of the church, which quickly became a cornerstone of the community's spiritual life. The church's dedication was a testament to the faith and perseverance of its builders and congregation, who worked tirelessly to bring their vision to fruition.

     In celebration of the church's 50th anniversary, a Golden Jubilee was held on October 7, 1976. This special occasion was marked by the blessing of the 15 mysteries of the rosary, which were prominently displayed at the front of the church. Additionally, the St. Damien Memorial statue was blessed, further enhancing the church's spiritual significance and historical legacy.
